About Mummy Mates

At Bepanthen, we know that becoming a mum is one of the most amazing times of your life. It's also one of the busiest and, for the first few weeks at least, you will welcome a constant stream of friends and relatives into your home, bearing gifts, food parcels (hopefully!) and always lots of love and attention for the latest addition to your family.

Unfortunately, for most people that wonderful 'honeymoon' period has to come to an end and gradually life settles down. Around this time, your partner may need to return to work following paternity leave. And, these days it's unlikely that your close relatives and 'in-laws' live just down the road, so their return home often signals the end of all the hands-on help you received in the early days. So, while we know that you love spending time with your baby, it can be difficult when you find yourself on your own for most of the day. When you consider that looking after a young baby can make you feel tired, overwhelmed and emotional, it's easy to understand why some people feel isolated.

That's why many mums find it so important to get to know a group of 'like minded' friends for support and advice. When you are at home all day with a baby, your 'mummy mates' often act as a 'lifeline'. While our mother's generation relied more on their own mothers for advice and practical support, today mums need to set up their own 'networks'. All over the country mums meet up to break up the day with a coffee and a chat, swap vital baby care tips and give advice in answer to nagging questions ("How many feeds do you give Evie a day?", "How many times does Charlie wake in the night?", "Why won't Mia take to breastfeeding").

At Bepanthen, we understand how important it is for mums to get to know each other - that's why we've launched a new scheme just for you called Mummy Mates. The idea is to bring new mums together for mutual support and advice. One of the ways we're doing this is by teaming up with cinemas across the UK (including Odeon, Cineworld and Picture House cinemas) to sponsor special parent and baby screenings. We know how difficult it can be to get out of the house to do something 'just for you' and so this is a great way for you - and your baby - to catch up on the latest film releases (and take a break from CBeebies!). With other mums and their little ones enjoying the movie, you don't need to worry about making too much noise, breastfeeding, or leaving to do a nappy change…everyone's in the same boat!

It's now even easier for you and your friends to enjoy these nationwide parent and baby screenings - just look out for new promotional packs of Bepanthen and claim your FREE vouchers for baby-friendly screenings of the latest movies at cinemas across the UK.

Meeting up for coffee is an essential 'first step' for many 'mummy mates', but there are also many other fun activities around for you to try out to keep you and your baby entertained!

Here's a few of our favourites:

  • Grab your buggy, put on a pair of trainers and go for a brisk walk - or even a jog - around your local park. Exercise can really help to revitalize you and the fresh air is good for your baby too
  • Meet up with friends, each bring a 'dish' and enjoy a picnic in the summer months. All the children will play together - and the mums can have a good gossip!
  • Visit a local art gallery or museum with a friend for an hour or so - make the most of all the time your baby will spend sleeping in those first few months!
  • Try out a local soft play centre - you can relax and catch up with other mums while the children play safely together

Our cinema 'venture' is just the start of the Mummy Mates scheme and over the coming months we will be working on other innovative ways to bring mums together. We'd love to hear your thoughts on what activities you'd like to take part in with your group of friends.
